What You Can Do to Help Committee Members

Chairs of committees decide whether or not a bill is even considered. If the bill is to move toward becoming a law, the Chair has to schedule a public hearing.

1. As advocates for the WBI anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill, your first job is to contact by phone and e-mail the Chairpersons of each of the committees to implore the Chair to schedule a hearing for S 87.

2. At the same time, contact each member of both committees asking him or her to vote in favor of the bill to be heard in their committee. Reference S 87 every time.

3. When a hearing is scheduled, make every attempt to attend in person. The day, date, time and hearing room will be announced on this website. Contact the VT State Coordinator and let her know if you plan to attend. Public testimony is heard. You will have to be brief. A well attended hearing convinces lawmakers that the topic is serious and worth having a law to address.

4. After the committee, write and call in your thanks to each member for airing Workplace Bullying in this very public setting.
